3D Face Customization

Warwick Warp's face customization technology can instantly create a 3D face model from single or multiple 2D images. The software takes as input 2D images of a person's head from a standard web-cam which are then automatically analysed to generate a fully 3D textured face model. The camera images do not have to be calibrated and there is no need for the user to mark facial features on the images; this is all determined by the system. Click the video below for a technology demonstration.

The face customization technology has many applications such as face model generation for games design and in-game player avatar customization. The system can also be set up to track the facial features of a person so that the customized face can be animated or a different face-mask can be controlled (virtual puppetry). The technology has the following features:

  • Real time
  • Runs on commodity hardware with a single web-camera
  • No user intervention
  • Robust to lighting and pose variation
  • Accurate detection and tracking of facial features
  • Automatic generation of face mask: position and texture
  • Can be made available as an API
